Westby Day Care & Learning Center opened on April 1, 1991 and is located in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Initial licensed was for 19 children ages 2-12 years.
Verna Drake, Director, opened the center in the church with the intent that within 2 years a stand alone building would be acquired. The church asked Verna to remain in the church and adopted the child care center as one of their local missions. The program rents space from the church, and sings a blessing at their noon meal, but provides a non-secular curriculum.
In 1993 WDCLC became a non-for-profit corporation, enrolled in the Department of Public Instruction Child and Community Food Program, and made it first expansion to a capacity of 30 to include children 6 weeks to age 12 years.
WDCLC has made four expansions over the years and currently is licensed to serve 50 children ages six weeks to 10 years old. WDCLC serves children of any race, sex, color, nationality, origin, religion, disability, or any other discriminatory basis prohibited by State or Federal law.
For more than 20 years WDCLC has been part of the Vernon County community serving families with warm, nurturing, quality early care and education for their children.
